My name is Zan Azlee. I’m a FREELANCE MEDIA PROFESSIONAL who can’t decide which aspect of the media I enjoy more. So, I get myself involved in everything. I’m a TV/FILM DIRECTOR, PRODUCER, VIDEOGRAPHER and WRITER (not just for the screen, but also for print). I’m involved in JOURNALISM both for broadcast and print, a content developer for NEW MEDIA/INTERNET, and a CONTENT CONSULTANT. I'm also a mass-comm LECTURER at a local university.
Off The Edge (that artsy fartsy magazine!) talks about documentary filmmaking in the Nov 2007 issue, and I was one of the interviewees. Being the publicity freak that I am, I just had to plug my new film, ‘I’m Muslim Too!’. Haha! They don’t call me Mat Pub for nothing! (Click on the pics to read the article.)
I will be on radio (RADIO24 - 93.9FM) tonight (15th November 2007) from 12am to 1:30am talking about my film ‘The Look-East Project’ which will air on NTV7 this weekend. Joining me will be my film’s music composer Arif Rafhan (Apan) and my girlfriend Nik Khairun Nisa, who is also a character in my film. Do tune in!
I wrote two articles based on my filmmaking trip to the Middle-East for Surf! magazine (click on the pics to read). Go check out the latest issue at all major newstands and bookstores!
As you all know, I wrote a book which is now on the shelves (and if you didn’t know… now you do!). The New Straits Times recently wrote an article about the publishing company, Content Cradle. What makes it unique is that submission of ideas are done online. Read the article here.
I have started a new film project called ‘I May Be Malaysian, But I Carry A Big Stick’ (which is actually the title of a short film I did in 2003). It will be a documentary about New Media and it’s role in the democratisation of Malaysia. The main subject is blogger Jeff Ooi. I talked to Jeff about this project end of last year and he agreed. And now… his court case. Read more about the case here: www.jeffooi.com rockybru.blogspot.com
For those of you who are wondering about ‘The Look-East Project’, it’s coming along in editing. Will keep you guys posted.
Here’s the poster for ‘The Look-East Project’. It’s always important to have a poster. It doesn’t matter if the film is done or not. The poster needs to be ready. It doesn’t matter if the film will EVER be done! As long as the poster looks cool! You can download a hi-res version of the poster for your prosperity here.
‘The Look-East Project’ got some press coverage during the shoot in Terengganu. Funny thing is, Kosmo claims that I found out about the snake-wrangler girls from an article that appeared in their publication. The truth is that I read it in The Star! Haha! I didn’t even know Kosmo ran a similar article! And, they even misspelled my name! (Click here to read article)
I just got back from Terengganu and as soon as I go through the footages I shot… be prepared for more video blogs on the progression of the film!
